Washington Makes Higher Education Employees Mandated Reporters

Washington state has amended its child abuse reporting law in response to the Penn State child abuse scandal. The amendment adds employees of colleges and universities to the categories of workers who must report to law enforcement or Child Protective Services whenever they have “reasonable cause to believe that a child has suffered abuse or neglect.”

The full list of occupations mandated to report appears in Revised Code of Washington Section 26.44.030.
